History of the Holy Kaaba

Before Islam, the Kaaba was a place of refuge. In Islamic history, the Kaaba was built by Hazrat Ibrahim A.S and his son Hazrat Ismail A.S. It was originally a simple and irrational structure. The Quraysh tribe that ruled Mecca and rebuilt the pre- Islamic Kaaba in 608 AD with wood and stone. A gate was raised above the ground level to protect the Kaaba from the flood waters. All Muslims want to perform the obligatory Hajj once in their life because Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is conditional for those who can afford it. The Kaaba, which mean cube in Arabic is 15 meters high and covered in black silk. The mountain where the Kaaba is located was a shrine and existed before the age of ignorance. Pilgrimage to a holy place is the basic principle of all faiths. Located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia it is the Second Qiblah of Islam. It is a sign for the believers in which direction they should pray. Quran established the direction of prayer. When pilgrims reach Mecca, they gather in the country yard of Holy Haram. Every year Muslims go to Mecca, to perform Hajj and Umrah by visiting Kaaba, they can choose Umrah packages to perform the pilgrimage of Umrah.

Construction of Kaaba in the Era of Ibrahim A.S

As Muslims, the Kaaba is a huge and important part of our faith. It is fundamental to our history as the first place of worship for Muslims. It is also the Qiblah of Muslims towards which Muslims face five times a day in prayer. The Kaaba was built by Hazrat Ibrahim and his son Hazrat Ismail himself. By Allah’s command, Hazrat Ibrahim was the first to build the Kaaba. The Kaaba is the holiest place in Islam, also known as the House of Allah. It is located in the center of Masjid al-Haram. Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Ismail raised the foundations of this house. And prayed to Allah that O our Lord accept this service of ours. When it was first built, it was a simple rectangular structure without a roof. The Quraysh tribe that ruled Mecca and rebuilt the Kaaba with wood and stone. When Prophet Muhammad was forced out of Mecca in 620 AD. So on his return in 630 AD he removed the idols from the Kaaba. However, keeping the black room inside the Kaaba, which was given to Prophet Ibrahim by the angel Gabriel? Holy Kaabah and Era of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

632-570 CE During the life of Prophet Muhammad, the local Arabs considered the Kaaba a holy place. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) around 600 AD when the structure of the Kaaba was damaged due to a flood. So after that, Muhammad (PBUH) took part in its reconstruction. The biography of Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) is one of the best biographies among all the personalities. Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) ended the quarrel between the tribes of Makkah by saying which tribe will keep the Black stone in its place. Hazrat Muhammad told the solution that all the elders of the tribe should lay the foundation stone of the black Stone on a Cloak. After that, Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed this sacred stone in its final place with his own hands. Muslims initially considered Jerusalem as their Qiblah direction and faced it while praying. During the first half of the reign of Prophet Muhammad, when he was in Mecca, Muhammad and his followers were severely persecuted. As a result, they migrated to Madinah. According to Muslims, the direction of Qiblah was changed from Masjid al-Aqsa to Masjid al-Haram by Allah’s order.

Holy Kaabah in the Era of Rightly Guided Caliphs

Although caliphs have appeared several times in the Quran, in which humans have been referred to as the vicegerents of Allah. But this term did not refer to any specific religious organization during the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).After the death of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), Muslims came together to protect their religious. After Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) there was a period of four caliphs who were companions and messengers for the survival of Islam and guidance of Muslims. They include Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique, Hazrat Umar Farooq, Hazrat Usman Ghani and Hazrat Ali (R.A). Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique is a respected companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the first person to accept Islam in the beginning of Islam. The majority of Muslims elected him as a first caliph. The leader of the Muslims was given the title of the successor of the messenger of Allah. After the reign of Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique, it is said about Hazrat Umar bin khattab. He was the first to receive the title of Caliph Abu Bakar Siddique. Because the title of Caliphs is (the successor of the messenger of Allah). Hazrat Umar Farooq was given the title of Amir-ul-Momineen, which mean commander of the Faithful. Which become an additional traditional title for future rulers. Abu Bakar and his three successors are known as the perfect Caliphs. Whose rule has been idealized by Muslim majority because it is based on the concept of shaura. Hazrat Usman Ghani was elected Caliph after Amir-ul-Momineen. Hazrat Ali was appointed Caliph of Islam after Hazrat Usman Ghani’s Caliphate. Hazrat Ali was the son of Hazrat Muhammad’s Uncle, Abu Talib. No Caliphs is legitimate unless he is from the progeny of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Final thoughts

Kaaba is a holy place for Muslims which is important for Muslims for religious and historical reasons. It is the first place of worship of Muslims which was built by Hazrat Ibrahim and his son Hazrat Ismail by the order of Allah. After Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) were appointed the caliphs who followed the orders of Allah and his messengers (PBUH) to protect Islam and as leaders of the Muslims. All Muslims face the Kaaba and offer five prayers, which Is the central location for the annual pilgrimage and Umrah. Which promoted the feeling of Muslims community and strengthened the confidence of Muslims. And it is considered to be a sign of the oneness of Allah, strengthened of faith. The main purpose of building the Kaaba was to make it a center of praise and worship of Allah. Kaaba was used as a center for idolatry by unbelievers during the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was forced out of Mecca. After many years of persecution by infidels, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) became the leader of Mecca. After which the Kaaba was dedicated as a place of worship to Allah. Muslims go to Kaaba to perform Hajj and Umrah, and get the honor of being a guest of Allah’s house.
